Ten Steps to Begin a Paleo Diet – Part 2

Begin_Paleo_2Hi again! I hope you all enjoyed my previous post, the first five steps to beginning a paleo diet! Here I’ll wrap it all up with the final five steps to lead you to a successful change to a healthier lifestyle.

Any sort of change can be hard at first, but the longer you stick with it, the easier it will become. When I first changed my diet, I literally had no idea what I was doing. All I knew was that I needed to try something different in order to try to change my life. Paleo wasn’t the first diet I had tried, it just happened to be what worked for me. Now, I feel amazingly healthy, and I have more energy than I’ve ever had before!

If you’re not feeling your best, I encourage you to try something new, and think “outside the box” of conventional wisdom.

I hope these steps make changing your life a little easier!

6. Buy The Highest Quality Food That You Can Afford

One of the things I love most about a paleo lifestyle is how it focuses on the quality of the food you eat, and where it comes from. This can be tricky for some as purchasing solely organic foods may not work with your budget, or may not be possible due to where you live. Don’t get caught up in the “all or nothing” attitude, just purchase the highest quality foods that you can afford! 7. Swap Your Oils

Remember those vegetable oils (canola/soybean) you once cooked with? It’s time to break up. I know, sad day, but your body will thank you! The best fats to cook with are coconut oil, ghee (clarified butter) and lard. Confused about saturated fats? Click HERE for a great, informative post.

8. Plan For Success

Planning your meals in advance can really help, especially when you’re first making a change to your diet, or if you’re just really busy. I always try to have fresh vegetables and proteins (beef, chicken, fish, etc.) on hand, this way I can throw together a meal in minutes! Every Sunday I do all of my grocery shopping, and plan for the week ahead. It saves me so much time throughout the week when I already have an idea of what I’ll be eating!

9. Give Your Taste Buds Time To Change

I was once a huge pasta and bread lover. Huge doesn’t even really cover it, as I ate some sort of cereal, pasta, rice or bread with every meal, and I didn’t feel full unless I had it. It took some time for my brain to make the adjustment, but once I did, I never looked back! I learned to not be afraid to try new things, and my once picky palate became much more open to new tastes! I learned to love seafood, spicy food, and have also tried too many new vegetables to count. It’s truly amazing how your taste buds change over time, and the foods I once loved have no appeal to me anymore!

10. Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself

Many of us can get caught up in the pursuit of perfection. I hate to break it to you, but no one is perfect. Shocking, right? I always say, aim to do the very best that you can. If you slip up, or make a decision that you’re not proud of, it’s ok! Just move on, and let the past be the past. Be easy on yourself, your health with truly thank you!

This wraps up my series for how to begin a paleo diet, and I truly hope you were able to learn something new! I’ll be back next week with a brand new post!
